Things to see and do, while you are in Foxford:
Annual Goat Fair
The fair has been a permanent fixture in the calendar for many generations of families supporting the fair going back several hundred years.
It is believed that the fair started when a man by the name of John Bingham was granted a patent for a market and four fairs in 1683 and only one of these fairs, the Foxford Goat Fair still exists and takes place on the Saturday closest to May 15.
What began as a place where people could buy and sell goats has evolved into an event where other animals such as horses and fowl, baked bread and vegetables are bought and sold and it has become an attraction for traditional stall traders selling their wares.
In many areas the traditional old style fair is dying out but it is a tribute to all involved that the Foxford fair remains vibrant.
On the day, it is expected that hundreds of people will converge on the town and join in the festivities during what has always been a highly enjoyable day out.
The fair has also been a focal point for people from Foxford who have left the town and many of these people return for the fair. Visitors to the town will also be encouraged to do a spot of fishing in the river May, arguably one of the best salmon fishing areas in Europe. Everyone is invited to attend the event.
